What is reflexology?

Reflexology is a form of acupressure based on the principle that there are special places mapped out on the surfaces of the feet, hands and ears which relate to every organ, gland and system within the human body.

It is performed by using thumb and finger techniques, called 'thumb walking'.  A reflexologist will use these techniques and other relaxation techniques to apply gentle pressure and motion to these very specific mapped out points, called 'reflexes', hence the name - reflexology.

What does a reflexology session feel like?

Oooh, aaaah, sigh, make sure you hit that spot, ohhh, zzzzzz, snooze, relax, relax, thanks very much! :-))

Seriously though, a lot of people experience deep relaxation during a session, often falling asleep.  Sometimes people experience a big energy boost for quite a while afterwards.

What are the benefits of receiving a session?

Think of it as a 'tune-up' for your body, assisting in the move back to homeostasis, or healthy balance.  It can also result in a reduction in stress and tension and even a reduction in chronic pain in some cases.

The immune system is stimulated and often a body 'de-tox' is experienced, improving digestion and well-being.

How do I receive a session?

Well, it's a tough job, but somebody has to do it!  You'll recline in a special chair just like this one in the picture, and you'll also be made comfortable with a number of pillows, blankets, a room with subdued lighting, quiet music playing if you'd like, and the use of top grade essential oils.

A full session can include reflexology on the hands or ears as well if you wish, and usually takes about an hour.

Please note - if you are in the first trimester of pregnancy, have a history of blood clots or have active fungal infections or cracked skin on your feet, it is wise to avoid having a reflexology session.
